This segment of the website presents the results of the completed first phase of the Ghent Altarpiece restoration: its exterior panels, which are in view when the polyptych is closed. In the future, the site will be further extended with new imagery revealing developments of the ongoing restoration phases.

Coming soon, Closer to Van Eyck will also display a large number of other works by Jan van Eyck. These have been documented in the same way as the polyptych in Ghent, through the VERONA (Van Eyck Research in OpeN Access) project of the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK–IRPA, Brussels), in collaboration with Musea Brugge and Closer to Van Eyck. For a first peek at what you can expect, we offer the artist’s portrait of his wife, Margareta van Eyck, from the Groeningemuseum in Bruges.
